Trump on COVID Testing: Yes, He Really Said It! (Spoilers)

“When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didn’t do any testing, we would have very few cases.”

This statement came from the mouth of the nation’s Chief Executive charged with overseeing the U.S. response to the coronavirus pandemic.   He made the statement on May 14th at a press event in Allentown, Pennsylvania.   And, as Trump will likely claim that this statement was taken out of context, here’s the complete statement he made:

“And don’t forget, we have more cases than anybody in the world. But why? Because we do more testing.  When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didn’t do any testing, we would have very few cases.”

Fortunately, you don’t need to trust us, or Forbes, or MarketWatch or the Los Angeles Times, or Snopes,  Or you can watch the video yourself at 8:10:

So, here’s the President’s apparent logic broken down into component parts:

  1.  COVID tests determine whether a person is ill
  2.  If we do fewer tests, then fewer people will be ill with COVID

Tell us if we are missing something here.   Our jaws are still on the ground.   And we aren’t alone:
